How to Stay Healthy While Traveling

When it comes to traveling, there are a ton of viruses and bacteria that you will come in contact with that your body is not used to. Making sure your immune system is strong enough to fight off these foreign bodies is crucial to having (and enjoying) the rest of your vacay. I’ve gotten sick numerous times while traveling, and have learned the best things to implement to keep my system as strong as possible.

Here are my tips for staying healthy while traveling!

  1. Make an Appointment to See Your Travel Nurse

Make sure you are up to date on all vaccines needed based on the country you are visiting. I recommend talking to your travel nurse to make sure you will not be susceptible to any viruses you may encounter while traveling.

2. Take Elderberry

For me, Elderberry has been a complete game changer! I started taking Elderberry a couple years back, and since taking it I rarely get sick now. I always bring a bottle of Elderberry with me just in case I am starting to feel run down or like my immune system is a bit compromised.

3. Probiotics & Enzymes

I take probiotics and digestive enzymes on a regular basis and I swear they help a lot! A portion of our immune system is located in our gut, so focusing on your gut health is important.

4. Activated Charcoal

Activated Charcoal is great for detoxing and helps to flush out any impurities you may come in contact with while traveling.

I love to combine my activated charcoal with lemonade. It’s delicious and I promise, it does not taste any different!

5. Carry Emergency Medicine Just in Case

Pain/ Headache

  • Ibuprofen
  • Aspirin

Motion Sickness

  • Bonine
  • Dramamine

TIPS

  1. Eat healthy and clean while traveling. Know where you are eating, and make sure to do your research before eating there to make sure you will not get sick.
  2. Take the necessary precautions. Make sure your hands are clean before handling your meals.
  3. Make sure the water you come in contact with is purified or okay for drinking and cooking. If you are unsure, I recommend sticking to Sodas and doing a lot of the cooking yourself.
  4. Make sure you test any supplements or medication you plan on taking during your trip in advance. Do this to ensure you do not have an allergic reaction to the products.
  5. Consult your doctor to make sure these supplements are right for you, if they are not maybe your doctor can recommend a better one!
