We live in a world of utmost brokenness. Disease, famine, poverty, and violence are all unfathomable disasters that take place every day. Every day disaster strikes a community, a city, a country. Most people live blindly unaware of it all.
According to Anti Slavery International, there are an estimated 40 million individuals enslaved in modern-day slavery worldwide. That’s more individuals than the whole population of Canada! According to World Vision, there are an estimated 1.85 billion people globally living in extreme poverty.
It’s easy to look at this mountain of devastation and despair and immediately feel overwhelmed and intimidated by it. I think a lot of people read about the numbers and hear about the news but think to themselves “that’s horrible, but there’s not much that can be done.” You can do something about it though.
You can make a difference.
Get involved. You can make a difference and drastically change the life of another human being. You can make a difference in a community. You can go on a mission trip and utterly change the lives of hurting people.
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa
I encourage you to go on a mission trip, at least once! You may discover you love it. It may even change your life.
